Kofi Annan, the Seventh Secretary-General of the United Nations, said: "When women thrive, all of society benifits, and succeeding generarions are given a better start in life." This statement pointed out women's roles in modern society. In the past, they were mothers and wives, who were responsible for making home. Men hardly respected them and doubted of their ability.
However, in the past few decades, women have made a great deal of effort to affirm that their roles in society is as important as men's roles. Nowadays, women not only have the functions of a mother, a wife but also goes out to work to earn money. They have opportunities to develop all aspects and take part in public activities. There are many women succeeding over men. An example is Mrs. Nguyen Thi Binh, vice-president of Vietnam. She is a famous polictician and is respected by many people.
In general, women in modern society are busier but happier. Their roles have been changing positively over the past few decades.
